META Opens NFT Sharing For US Facebook, Instagram Users

Tech giant Meta said it had opened NFT sharing capabilities for all of its US based Instagram and Facebook users. This allows for all U.S. based users to connect their wallets and share their digital collectibles. Earlier in May 2022, Meta said it was testing digital collectibles with a handful of U.S. creators and collectors. They will be able to share on Instagram the non fungible tokens (NFTs) they have created or bought, it said at the time.

Meta Enables NFT Sharing For Instagram, Facebook Users

In an update to its digital collectibles blog post, Meta said users would be able to connect their wallets with Instagram accounts. Also, the company made available to users outside the U.S. the access to NFT feature. This is applicable to the 100 countries that have the access, the Meta blog said. The new update could be a huge step forward in advancing the company’s ambitions of building a Metaverse. The developers aim to build Metaverse as a combination of virtual reality and mixed reality to allow virtual interactions.

“Today we are announcing everyone on Facebook and Instagram in the US can now connect their wallets and share their digital collectibles. This includes the ability for people to cross-post digital collectibles that they own across both Facebook and Instagram. Additionally, everyone in the 100 countries where digital collectibles are available on Instagram can now access the feature.”

Sharing Digital Collectibles

After connecting a digital wallet, creators and collectors would be able to choose which NFTs from their wallet they would like to share on Instagram. Also, the creator and collector can be automatically tagged in the NFT post on Instagram and Facebook. Any user signed up into Facebook or Instagram can connect the wallet. Users can do so by selecting the “digital collectibles” tab under settings in the Facebook or Instagram app.
